Motivational Interviewing for Health Practitioners
Meets weekly on Thursdays from July 10, 2014 through August 07, 2014
2:00 – 3:00 pm Eastern
Facilitating successful shifts in patient health behavior is a key challenge for practitioners and a measure being scrutinized by insurers. There is considerable evidence that Motivational Interviewing (MI) is effective in strengthening people’s own motivation to change attitudes and behaviors related to diet, exercise, substance misuse, smoking, diabetes management, depression management, medication adherence, HIV/AIDS risk reduction, and more. Participants in this introductory 5-week online course will learn about the key concepts of MI, the core interviewing skills used in MI, and practical ways to use this approach in relatively brief health care encounters. This highly interactive course will include information, video examples, discussion, and opportunities to practice.
